The CMS 2027 plan crosswalk, dated October 1, 2026, lists HealthSpring Extra Rx (PDP), plan ID S5617-353, as terminated or non-renewed, so this stand-alone Medicare drug plan is not offered in New York in 2027. In September 2026, at least 19,703 New York residents were enrolled in it, 3,614 of them in Suffolk County. HealthSpring Assurance Rx continues in New York for 2027 under a new plan ID, S5715-024, but the crosswalk does not move members of HealthSpring Extra Rx into it. If it is your drug plan, this page shows where its members live, what happens to your drug coverage and how to get help choosing a new plan.

What you can choose for 2027

New York has 9 stand-alone drug plans in the CMS 2027 Landscape file, down from 10 in 2026. You can join one of them or, if you would rather leave Original Medicare, a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage, where one is offered in your county. Drug plans differ in premiums, deductibles, pharmacies and which drugs they cover, so the useful comparison runs your own prescriptions through each plan. Goulson Insurance does not offer every plan; Medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE list all of them, and 1-800-MEDICARE is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Your deadlines and rights when a stand-alone drug plan ends

You can use the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7, to choose a new drug plan, and a plan you choose then starts January 1. When your drug plan is not renewed for 2027, you also have a Special Enrollment Period from December 8 through the last day of February. A plan you join then starts on the first day of the following month, so a choice made in January starts February 1 and one made in February starts March 1, and you have no Medicare drug coverage until then. If you make no choice, your drug coverage ends with your plan on December 31, 2026, and if you later join a drug plan after going 63 days or more in a row without creditable drug coverage, a late enrollment penalty is added to your premium for as long as you have Medicare drug coverage, unless you get Extra Help. If you have Extra Help or Medicaid, Medicare may assign you a drug plan automatically, though you can still choose a different one. Instead of a stand-alone drug plan you can choose a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage, but a Medigap policy works only with Original Medicare. Our guide to Part D premiums in 2027 explains what drug plans cost.

    Drug plan ending questions

Yes. The CMS 2027 plan crosswalk, dated October 1, 2026, lists HealthSpring Extra Rx (PDP), plan ID S5617-353, as terminated or non-renewed, which means it is not offered in New York in 2027. Your plan's own letter is the final word on your dates.

In the CMS 2026 Landscape file, S5617-353 is HealthSpring Extra Rx (PDP), a stand-alone Medicare drug plan (PDP) offered across New York, with Health Care Service Corporation as its parent organization.

Your other Medicare coverage, such as Original Medicare and any Medigap policy, continues, but your coverage under this drug plan ends on December 31, 2026, and you will have no Medicare drug coverage until a new plan starts. If you later join a drug plan after going 63 days or more in a row without creditable drug coverage, a late enrollment penalty is added to your premium for as long as you have Medicare drug coverage, unless you get Extra Help. If you have Extra Help or Medicaid, Medicare may assign you a drug plan, though you can still choose a different one.

If you join a new plan by December 7, during the Annual Enrollment Period, it starts January 1, 2027. Because your plan is not renewed, you also have a Special Enrollment Period from December 8 through the last day of February: a plan you join in December starts January 1, one you join in January starts February 1, and one you join in February starts March 1.
