How this list was chosen, and who wrote it
Five criteria, applied to brokers serving Los Angeles County. First, independence: a broker represents several insurance companies rather than selling for one, and the agency says so on its own website. Second, a public review record on Google under the agency's real name. Third, a real local office somewhere in the county, from the Westside to the San Fernando Valley to Long Beach, and a direct phone line answered by a licensed person rather than a national call center. Fourth, licensing transparency: license numbers published where you can check them with the California Department of Insurance. Fifth, service beyond the sale: the person who enrolls you still answers the phone next year when a bill comes back wrong. The author is Goulson Insurance Services. We meet these criteria. The competitors we name meet most of them, and where one prints no license number or no street address, its entry says so. Every other agency is described only from what its own website says. Judge our entry with the authorship in mind. Our company facts page gathers our own license numbers, the NPN and both office addresses, so you can apply the fourth criterion to us before you call.
Is there Medicare help near me in Los Angeles County?
Yes. Goulson Insurance Services is a licensed independent insurance agency with two offices in Los Angeles County, one in Century City on the Westside and one in Valley Village in the San Fernando Valley, and Lara Goulson answers the phone at (818) 472-5484. Wherever you live in the county, from Santa Monica and Culver City to Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley, from Torrance and the South Bay to Long Beach, from Lancaster and Palmdale in the Antelope Valley to Downey, Norwalk and the Gateway cities, a licensed California broker can work with you. That is because the decision that matters, whether a plan fits you, is not made at a desk across town. It is made on a screen while you are on the phone: your doctors checked against each network, your prescriptions run through each drug list, your out of pocket limits compared side by side. What proximity buys you is an office to visit if you want one and a person who knows which local hospital systems sit in which networks.
The list
For Medicare help in Los Angeles County, the best independent agencies for 2027, judged against five criteria, independence, a public Google review record, a real local office with a direct line, published license numbers and service after the sale, are Goulson Insurance Services, Matt Medicares Insurance, Roxbury Insurance Services, Marina Amezcua Insurance Agency, Holenstein Insurance Services, Paul Davis Insurance Services, Campanelli Insurance Services and Gabriela Insurance. We wrote this list and appear on it. Every entry, ours included, is judged against the same five criteria. Every other agency is described only from what its own website says, and none of those sites prints a review count or rating, so check each Google profile and license yourself, ours included. Not every entry clears every criterion in full; where an agency prints no license number, no street address or only a toll free line, its paragraph says so. Goulson Insurance Services. Meets all five: independent, family run, offices in Century City on the Westside (Lara Goulson, founder and owner) and Valley Village in the San Fernando Valley, agent licenses published on our own site, a public Google profile for the Century City office you can read for yourself, works with clients directly in English, Spanish and Hebrew, licensed in 11 states. Lara answers (818) 472-5484 in Century City, and our Valley Village office is at (818) 731-5417. Service is year round and hands on: we call doctors' offices with you, sort out bills that came back wrong, and get on the phone with the carrier together when a claim is denied. Matt Medicares Insurance. Matt Rolph's site describes him as an independent broker who lives and works in Los Angeles and says he helps Medicare eligible residents across Los Angeles County, naming Hollywood, West LA, Santa Monica, Sherman Oaks, Woodland Hills, Pasadena, Glendale, Long Beach and East and South Los Angeles among the places he serves. It says that when you call you reach him, not a call center, and it carries the disclosure that he represents 10 organizations offering 431 products in the area. No street address or license number is printed, so his office is described here only as based in Los Angeles. Roxbury Insurance Services. An independent insurance agency, in its own words, with an office on National Boulevard in Los Angeles on the Westside and a local 310 direct line. Its site says it serves clients in the Los Angeles area and throughout California, lists Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage plans and prescription drug plans among its products, and prints its California agent license on the site. Medicare is one line among several on its site, so ask the agency how much of its work is Medicare. Marina Amezcua Insurance Agency. A Long Beach agency on Long Beach Boulevard whose site says its agents in Long Beach will help you with Medicare plans, that the office is open daily for in office consultation, and that they can also come to you. Its service area runs through Whittier, East Los Angeles, downtown Los Angeles, Torrance, Hawthorne, El Segundo, Hacienda Heights and Pomona, its Medicare content is also offered in Spanish, and a local 562 direct line is printed. Its Medicare pages call it an independent insurance agency in Long Beach, but no license number is printed, so ask for the agent's license number and how many Medicare carriers it represents. Holenstein Insurance Services. A San Fernando Valley agency: based in Granada Hills, Los Angeles County, and serving all of California, in its own words, with a local 818 direct line. Its site says it represents all major insurance carriers in California and names Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Health Net, Humana, Kaiser Permanente and Scan among them, prints its California agent license on the site, and its companion Medicare site lists the carriers it is appointed with. No street address is printed. Paul Davis Insurance Services. Office on Napa Street in Northridge, in the San Fernando Valley, with a local 818 direct line. Its site says it specializes in helping people with Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplements and Part D prescription drug plans, describes Paul Davis as an independent agent representing most of the major carriers, states that there is never a fee for his services, and prints its California agent licenses on the site. Campanelli Insurance Services. Giulio Campanelli's agency, based in Los Angeles under a West Hollywood heading on its site, with a local 424 direct line. The site offers personal guidance for Medicare, health, life and small business benefits, calls its guidance inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly, prints its California agent license on the site, and carries the disclosure that it represents 13 organizations offering 90 products in the area. No street address is printed. Gabriela Insurance. A health insurance broker in the San Fernando Valley, in its own words, with a local 818 line that its site says connects you with a licensed agent. It prints its California agent license on the site and the disclosure that it represents 9 organizations offering 68 products in the area, and it carries pages for people new to Medicare on costs and enrollment periods. Its contact page prints an office on West Olive Avenue in Burbank, with office hours Monday through Friday. Directories: medicareagentshub.com lists licensed agents by city for comparison; it is an aggregator, not an agency. Run one of these agencies? Call (818) 472-5484 to correct or expand your entry; that offer keeps an honest list honest.
How to pick from this list in Los Angeles County
For Medicare help in Los Angeles County, the right broker depends on fit, not fame. Start with language. Many families in the county are more comfortable in Spanish or Hebrew, and a broker who works with you directly in your language catches things that slip through in translation. Family members are welcome in every appointment; the broker should also speak with you directly. Next, geography. The county runs from the Antelope Valley to Long Beach, so ask whether the agency has a real office on your side of it, on the Westside if you are in Santa Monica, in the Valley if you are in Northridge, in Long Beach if you are near the harbor, with a direct line a licensed person answers. Then ask what happens after you enroll: who calls the doctor's office with you, who sorts out a bill that came back wrong, and who gets on the phone with the carrier when a claim is denied. A broker who welcomes these questions has told you something. One who dodges them has told you something too. Before you call anyone, check the license yourself: go to cdicloud.insurance.ca.gov/cal and search by license number or by name, which the California Department of Insurance says returns the license status and discipline history of an agent, broker or business entity. Try it on us, with CA license 0E69969 and NPN 8407942, and take questions or complaints to the department's consumer hotline at 1-800-927-4357. Our guide to choosing a broker in Los Angeles for your Medicare plan covers the rest of the checks.
Is Medicare help free? How agents get paid
Yes, working with a licensed agent is free to you. Independent agents are paid by the insurance carriers, and for Medicare Advantage and Part D that pay is capped: the CMS memo on agent and broker compensation for contract year 2027 sets the California ceiling at $902 for a first year Medicare Advantage enrollment, $451 for each renewal year, and $130 for a standalone Part D drug plan, while Medicare Supplement commissions fall outside those caps. Either way, the help comes at no extra cost to you. Your premium is identical whether you enroll through an agent or directly with the carrier, which means you gain personal help without paying more for the same plan. That help does not stop at enrollment. Goulson Insurance Services, an independent Los Angeles agency, continues to assist with billing questions, claim problems, and yearly coverage reviews at no charge. If you would rather use a public resource, California's Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, HICAP, offers free, confidential one on one counseling on Medicare through the California Department of Aging at 1-800-434-0222. We are not affiliated with Medicare or any government agency. This page tells you to ask a broker how many insurance companies it represents, so here is our own answer: 18 organizations offering 233 products in this area, the same counts you will find in the disclaimer printed on this page. Reach Lara Goulson in Century City at (818) 472-5484 or our Valley Village office at (818) 731-5417.
What a broker is allowed to do when contacting you about Medicare
Most people looking for a broker in Los Angeles County have already been cold called or door knocked, so here is what the rules actually allow. Under the Medicare Advantage marketing rule at 42 C.F.R. 422.2264, a plan and its agents may not use door to door solicitation when it is unsolicited, may not approach you in common areas such as parking lots, hallways and lobbies, may not send direct messages from social media, and may not use telephone solicitation, robocalls, text messages or voicemail messages. That ban covers calls based on referrals and calls to confirm you received a mailing. Contact you asked for is different: returning your call, or calling after you sent a business reply card, is allowed. Before any personal marketing appointment, the broker must agree and record a Scope of Appointment with you, in writing for an in person meeting, naming the lines of business that may be discussed, and it stays valid for twelve months from the date you sign. Anyone who skips these steps has told you something. Lara Goulson takes calls at (818) 472-5484.
Questions families in Los Angeles County ask, answered
Do I need a broker in my own part of the county? No. A California license covers the whole state, and the comparison work is done by phone and screen, so a Valley broker can serve a Long Beach family without trouble; what you want is someone who knows which local hospital systems and medical groups sit in which networks. Will my plan choices differ from my sister's in Orange County? Often, yes. Medicare Advantage plans are approved by service area, usually a county, so the menu in Los Angeles County is not the menu one county over, and a broker should know the difference. How do I know a broker is really independent? Ask how many insurance companies they represent and look for the disclosure on their website that says so; one company is a salesperson, several is a broker. Who do I call when a claim is denied in February? Ask that before you enroll. The answer should be a name, not a department.
Use the criteria, whoever you choose
We would love your call, and we say that openly. But the real point of this page is that the criteria travel anywhere in Los Angeles County: independence, verifiable reviews, a local office with a human on the line, published licenses, and service after the sale. Hold any broker to them, including us, and you will end up in good hands.
