A Licensed Independent Agent, at No Cost to You
Lara Goulson holds California insurance license number 0E69969 and works as an independent agent, appointed with many carriers rather than employed by one. That is what makes a genuine comparison possible: Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Part D plans reviewed side by side, with your doctors and prescriptions checked before you sign anything. The help is free. Insurance carriers pay licensed agents when a client enrolls, and Medicare regulates that compensation, so your monthly premium does not change based on how you enroll. There is no consultation fee, no language fee, and no obligation to buy.
How a Spanish Language Appointment Works
The whole appointment happens in Spanish if that is what you prefer, in person, by phone, or by video. We explain what Parts A, B, C, and D actually do, review the doctors you want to keep, check every medication you take against each plan formulary, and compare total annual cost rather than just the monthly premium. Bring your Medicare card if you have one, your medication list with doses, the names of your doctors, and your ZIP code. That is enough to build a real comparison. Families are welcome. Many appointments include adult children who want to understand the options too, and everyone can participate in whichever language they are most comfortable with.
After she enrolls, who answers in Spanish
Enrollment is the easy part. Here is what comes after. Her plan's member services line has to be open at least from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The same rule lets the plan close it on Thanksgiving and Christmas between October and March, and on weekends and federal holidays between April and September. If she calls on a Saturday in July she may get a recording rather than a person, though the plan has to call her back within one business day. Medicare's own line, 1-800-MEDICARE, answers around the clock every day but some federal holidays, and she can ask for an interpreter. Where Spanish is a language her plan must translate into, the required materials arrive in Spanish once the plan knows her language, the pharmacy directory among them. A grievance about how she was treated can be filed out loud or in writing within 60 days of what happened. A plan level appeal of a denied service or drug runs 60 calendar days from when she receives the written decision, which counts as 5 days after the notice date unless she can show otherwise. Good cause can still extend that if she realizes late. An appeal of a hospital discharge moves much faster, so call the same day. At a clinic or specialist whose health program takes federal money, she has a right to free language help, accurate and on time, and to a qualified interpreter when one is needed. That is a lot to carry alone in a second language, year after year. Call Lara Goulson at (818) 472-5484.
Serving Spanish Speaking Communities Across the Valley
A large share of our Spanish speaking clients live in the San Fernando Valley, in Van Nuys, Panorama City, North Hollywood, Sun Valley, and Pacoima, and we also serve Spanish speaking households throughout Los Angeles County. Several situations come up frequently in these communities. Households with mixed immigration status often have questions about who qualifies for what, and those questions deserve accurate answers rather than assumptions. Clients with limited income may qualify for Extra Help with Part D costs or for a Medicare Savings Program, and many people who qualify never apply because nobody told them the programs exist. We also see many families where a working adult manages coverage for a parent. Handling that in Spanish, without a rushed translation in the middle of an enrollment call, is the difference between a decision that holds up and one that gets corrected a year later.
The Basics Before You Choose
Original Medicare, Part A and Part B, covers hospital and medical care but leaves deductibles and coinsurance to you, and it does not include prescription drugs. Most people add either a Medicare Supplement with a standalone Part D plan, or a Medicare Advantage plan that bundles coverage together through a network. Medicare Advantage generally costs less each month, uses a network of doctors and hospitals, and caps your annual out of pocket costs for covered services. A Medicare Supplement costs more each month but lets you use any provider nationwide who accepts Medicare, with very predictable costs. California also has a birthday rule that lets Medicare Supplement policyholders change to a plan with equal or lesser benefits once a year around their birthday, without health questions.
Do permanent residents qualify for Medicare?
Yes. Green card holders can qualify for Medicare at 65, and your work history decides how. If you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes for 40 quarters, about 10 years of work, you get Part A with no monthly premium, exactly like a citizen. If you do not have those quarters yet, there is still a path: as a lawful permanent resident you can enroll and buy your coverage once you have lived in the United States for 5 continuous years. In that case Part A carries a monthly premium, and you pay for Part B the way every enrollee does. Every immigration story is different, and enrollment dates matter. Call Lara Goulson at (818) 472-5484 to review your eligibility in Spanish or English. The help costs you nothing, because carriers pay licensed agents, and that compensation is regulated by Medicare.

Important Dates
Your Initial Enrollment Period lasts seven months around your 65th birthday: three months before your birthday month, the month itself, and three months after. Medicare Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7, 2026, and changes take effect January 1, 2027. If you lose employer coverage or move out of your plan's service area, a Special Enrollment Period may let you make changes outside those windows. Call and we will tell you which one applies to you.
Service in Eleven States
Lara is licensed in California, Nevada, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Arkansas, Colorado, Michigan, and New York, and serves Spanish speaking clients in all of them by phone and video. If you move to another one of those states, you keep the same agent and you do not start over with someone who does not know your history.
